Why Homeschooling is Right for My Family.

Life skills and home economics are a big focus of our home schooling lessons.

When I was a child I LOVED school!  My children, not so much.  While Clark, my older daughter, eventually adapted successfully, Anya just never had any interest or drive when it came to traditional schooling. She was miserable all day and we were both miserable when it came to homework.  The traditional way just wasn’t working for us and I didn’t think simply changing schools was the answer to our problems.  I knew that I had to start thinking outside the box.  It wasn’t long before I stumbled upon the notion of working homeschoolers!  I had just assumed that children that homeschooled had stay at home moms that also had teaching degrees.  Boy was I wrong!  Now, I’m not suggesting that homeschooling is an option for every working mom but here are 3 reasons why homeschooling is right for my family.

I now have more control of my children’s education.

Anya needed a more focused, tailored approach to school.  In a traditional classroom setting, she would just zone out and thereby miss out on the lesson.  So when it came time to do the assignment, she was like a deer in the headlights.  Naturally, her grades weren’t great as a result and she felt like a failure.  When we decided to give homeschool a try, I chose a curriculum that allowed us to move as fast or as slowly as we need to. Time 4 Learning gave us just that!  The flexible, self paced platform allowed us to take our time in some subjects and move quickly through others.  This was just what she needed to build her confidence and interest in learning!

Another reason why homeschooling is right for my family is because it allows us to have more quality time together.  Not only can we engage in fun learning activities as a family but we now have the freedom to do school work around whatever else we have going on that is just as important to us, like travel!  With this being our first school year as a homeschooling family, there was a learning curve for us all.  However, next school year, we plan to be world schoolers and heavily incorporate travel into the learning experience. Using an all-in-one curriculum like Time 4 Learning gives us the freedom to work whenever and wherever we want to.  All we need is an internet connection and a laptop.

Homeschooling allows my family more flexibility in our lifestyle.

With the right tools, homeschooling doesn’t have to be stressful.

Lastly, homeschooling is right for my family because I have more control over exactly what my children are learning.  Let’s face it, traditional schooling has more fluff than necessary and not nearly enough of the important stuff to get our children through life.  I know many will say, “well, isn’t that what parents are for?”  And, I wholeheartedly agree!  But with all of the homework that my children were receiving while in traditional schooling, it gave us little time to focus on much of anything else.  Using Time 4 Learning allows me to create an individualized lesson plan of core subjects and gives me the time freedom to supplement around that.  Also, the all-in-one format provided by Time 4 Learning that teaches, grades, and reports for me frees up my time to focus on other tasks.

So…listen, mamas!  If you’re looking for an alternative to traditional schooling as a better fit for your child(ren)’s learning style and/or your lifestyle, don’t look over homeschool as an option.  It doesn’t have to be difficult, or stressful, or time consuming.  And while this option won’t be the perfect fit for everyone, with the right tools, it just might be the right choice for your family!

Let me know what your thoughts are about homeschooling!

Until next time,

Stephanie J.
