Hotel Punta Islita-The Property and Rooms

Hotel Punta Islita, An Autograph Collection hotel in Punta Islita, Costa Rica, in the Guanacaste Region of the country is a GORGEOUS resort off the beaten path. Let me just tell you that NOTHING is typical about this place! This property is the embodiment of what it means to be included in Marriott’s Autograph Collection, a unique experience that is anything but “one-size-fits-all.” If you’re looking for an experience that gives you as much relaxation AND as much activity as your little heart can handle, this is where you need to be! An amazingly lush property, well appointed living spaces, an adventurous list of included activities, and a simply WONDERFUL staff make Hotel Punta Islita a place to come back to over and over again!

Isn’t this view AMAZING!
What a great view for breakfast everyday!

We were lucky enough to stay in one of the Premium Junior Suites.  Our unit featured a king size canopy bed as well as a daybed. There was plenty of space to spread out for the three of us.  We also had an enormous, private, outdoor space complete with a terrace, a hammock, and a plunge pool. The stunning view overlooked the Pacific Ocean.  Outside was so lush and green-it was just what we were looking to escape to in the middle of December, coming from Kentucky. Check out the video of the room we stayed in:

The resort also features a standard room, two bedroom units, as well as three bedroom villas that come equipped with a golf cart.

The property is simply breathtaking! An abundance of greenery everywhere you look as well as panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean make Hotel Punta Islita a place you’ll never want to leave. Each “room” is a stand alone unit and they cascade downward from the main building. One thing to be aware of is that this property requires the ability to frequently go up and down stairs. The plus side to that is you’re getting your daily exercise in without even trying!

There are two swimming pools on the property, one at the main building and one at the beach. The swiming pool at the main building is an infinity pool and has a minimum age of 16 years old to get in. Anya was NOT happy about that!

The actual beach isn’t expansive but the rest of the property and the included activities more than make up for it. We spent a significant amount of time down by the beach as that was the pool that the girls were allowed to swim. There are plenty of lounge chairs as well as a beachside restaurant and bar. The restaurant there serves a more casual menu than the main restaurant. That’s where we ate most of our meals.

The hotel is located in a little town for which it is named, Islita. They have done an amazing job of incorporating the town as part of the experience. The center of Islita is the Museum and Community Center as well as the town daycare. Local towns people lead hotel visitors in various crafts and activities. We made keychains and candles while we were there but they also offer traditional cooking classes as well as coffee tastings! The museum features a plethora of paintings by a local artist as well as other art made from natural items found in the area. There are also a couple of restaurants that got rave reviews. We didn’t get to try either of them this time but we definitely will when we go back!

Another great feature of Hotel Punta Islita is the Casa Spa! It is an absolutely tranquil space the serves up an abundance of blissful treatments. This is a good place to begin and end your time at the resort giving you the opportunity to relax and reset upon arrival and departure. Or anytime in between!

All in all, Hotel Punta Islita is a resort unlike anything else we’ve ever experienced! I seriously had to pinch myself everyday I woke up to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. If you’re not sure where to go in Costa Rica or if you’re looking for a place that has something for EVERYONE in your family or travel group, I HIGHLY recommend you check this place out. You are sure to have the time of your life!

Until next time,

Stephanie J.

My connection dropped during the first post, and in case it didn’t come through, reposting. I really love the simplicity of your accommodation in Costa Rica. This has been a place my husband’s been wanting to go to for surfing, and you got us at “outdoor spa”, pool, and those views. Will be pinning your post for our future CR travel. Thank you, Stephanie.

It’s definitely off the beaten path-a three hour drive from LIR airport, but worth the drive. Thanks for your feedback!
