A few years ago, I made a decision for my family to make our holidays and birthdays less about stuff and more about experiences. Honestly, I just got so tired of the rat race of Christmas and birthdays, the struggle of trying to figure out the latest and greatest gift idea, only to create a moment of excitement and the stinging regret of money NOT well spent. I realized that my children get lots of things that they want all year long so what sense does it make to run out and spend a bunch of money on stuff that doesn’t add any real value to their lives and will most likely sit on a shelf and collect dust. But you know what DOES add value to their lives? TRAVEL! And it does my heart good to hear my children reminisce about the amazing adventures that we’ve had over the years. This year, our stay at Hotel Punta Islita was definitely one for the books!
We flew into Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR), the closest airport to the resort, which is more than two hours from Punta Islita. We arrived a day early because our flight didn’t arrive until close to 2PM and with the additional drive to the resort, we didn’t want to lose most of the day on the journey. So we stayed at a nearby hotel and rested up for our trek the next day. We hired a private driver to take us to Punta Islita, Miguel Canales of Miguetours Transfers y Tours and he was wonderful! He promptly picked us up at our hotel, provided wifi in the vehicle for the ride, told us all about the towns and areas we passed through along the way, and even stopped to let us get out to take pictures!
About three hours later, we arrived in Punta Islita! Let me just say that I usually don’t drive in places that I’m unfamiliar with, whether domestic or abroad, and I am so happy that I didn’t decide to rent a car and drive myself in this situation, as well! The last 10 kilometers to get to the resort are on an unpaved road and if YOU decide to rent a car, you’ll definitely need an all wheel drive vehicle!
We stayed at the Hotel Punta Islita, an Autograph Collection property. I discovered this resort researching Marriott’s properties in Costa Rica for clients and was intrigued by the experience it offers. While it’s not all inclusive in the traditional sense of the term, the resort offers included activities! Those activities include horseback riding, monkey hikes, canopy ziplining, craft making, cooking classes, mixology classes, and nature hikes and bird-watching hikes! That’s different, right? I couldn’t have been more pleased with this resort! The staff was warm and very welcoming, the property was lush and beautiful, the rooms were luxurious, and the views were AMAZING!
Our holiday in Punta Islita, Costa Rica was nothing less than exceptional! So far, it’s unlike anything else we’ve ever experienced in our travels and it was the perfect Christmas gift and getaway for Clark and Anya. We definitely created memories that will last a lifetime. We’ve actually decided that this is a place that we should make an annual visit and hope that you will add Hotel Punta Islita to your travel itinerary!
Until next time,
